Eastern European Lures

by Bill Piatek
(Rio Rancho NM)

Has anybody used lures from Taps or Microbait or other Eastern European manufacturers with their UL and XUL rods? I just ordered some to try here on creeks and lakes.

Spasm Lures
by: Kelly Peterson

I got some Spasm Lures out of Serbia. Very good quality and work great on any of my ultralights. These are 2" and less size lure. Check out ETSY website for Spasm Lures to see what is available.

Got a couple

I'm a sucker for hand made balsa micro lures so I got a couple to try on trout, panfish and bass.

thanks for the link

Bill, I ordered a few handmade wooden lures from Japan. Should receive them next week.

Chris,
Are those similar to the one you showed in your trip photos? The Japanese lure makers I've seen on the web are unbelievable craftsmen.

One thing I'll have to do is replace the trebles with micro barb singles. How do you like the micro barbs you ordered?

Wood lures / microbarb hooks
by: Chris Stewart

Bill,

I will have a few that are similar to the one shown on my Sinking Minnow Lures article (although that color was out of stock), and two other styles as well, one sinking and one floating, both from WooDream. They aren't cheap, but if they sell well I will bring in a few more models.

I have not yet received the micro barb single hooks, but I expect them to be the same hook as the C'ultiva SBL-55M except with barbs. I'm pretty happy with the SBL-55M hooks so I think the barbed version will do just fine.

You're right about them not being cheap :-)

Seems like the Yo-zuri sinking 2" pins is hard to find now.

Anything else to recommend?

Sinking Pins Minnow
by: Chris Stewart

I think I can still get them. I don't think they offer the single hook version anymore so I haven't imported them. I'll see if I can get some.

That would be great if you can get a few. Curious to see the Woos too.

Fishing plugs in a stream
by: Les Albjerg

Bill - Saturday was my first time fishing sinking lures in a stream. I wrote up my fun over on the Tenkara website. I lost a Duo Spearhead Ryuki 50S "Wakasagi" on a fish larger than the one I landed. That hurt! What a blast! I just broke the bank and ordered some WooDream plugs. The Arbor 40 S looks like a small whitefish and should really work well on the Rainbows in the S. Fork of the Boise River. This plug fishing is addictive! My co-worker and sometimes fishing buddy Travis is really giving me a hard time. He is a dedicated spin fisherman. Never thought I would enjoy it so much.

OUCH!

Les,
That hurts losing a $15 plug. Don't lose the Woos though.

Les,
You did break the bank, Woodreams are gone except for the floaters.

All,
Just got back from a Wisconsin & Michigan family trip. All my Euro lures were waiting.

I'll need to replace the trebles with singles from Chris. I went overboard and got 15 from different manufacturers. A little less than half are sinking.
The floaters are mostly caterpillars and beetles. I'll report back when I get some fishing time on them.

One sinker left
by: Chris Stewart

The 50S Flat is still in stock.

I will try to get more with my next shipment of Tenryu rods (baitcasters and fly rods in late September).

plug stock
by: bill piatek

Chris,
Hopefully you can get some of the Arbor 40S back in stock.

There's other plugs you carry that I want to try soon also like the Step Darts and Duo Spearhead.

Restraint
by: Les Albjerg

Bill - I only bought three. I bought 2 of the 40s models because they look like baby whitefish. I know that Chris had more. I also knew these would sell out!

Hoping to get one wet tomorrow!
