Shimano Refrain 50HS
The Shimano Refrain 50HS is a 50mm (2 inch) 4.1 gram high response sinking minnow. It has Shimano's new "Scale Boost" holographic technology, which creates ultra-realistic shine and flash (down to individual scales). Being slightly lighter than the "standard" 4.5g sinking minnow lures, the Shimano Refrain 50HS is more responsive to subtle twitches. The minnow has a small tungsten weight, placed low in the body and slightly towards the rear. This placement gives the lure a subtle shimmy when falling, a gentle wobble when you retrieve it and longer, straighter flight when you cast it.
Shimano Refrain 50HSThe Shimano Refrain 50HS is one of the few sinking minnow lures designed from the very beginning for a pair of single hooks. You will not have to struggle with split ring pliers or purchase separate hooks or try to adjust for the weight differential between single hooks and treble hooks. The hooks have micro barbs, so they are easy to bend down if you want to fish barbless.
Another aspect of the Shimano Refrain 50HS, and one which clearly underscores that that Shimano spared no effort in designing this lure, is that it was designed in accordance with the "golden ratio" of 1.6, which is not only aesthetically pleasing, but is found throughout nature. The ratio of the distance in front of the humped back to behind the hump is 1 to 1.6. The ratio of the distance from the front of the plug to the eye, compared to the distance from the eye to the rear of the gill plate is 1 to 1.6. The length of the bill compared to the length of the line extending from the bill to the lure's back is 1 to 1.6. We don't know if trout react the same as humans, be we look at the Shimano Refrain 50HS and it just looks "right." I'm willing to bet that it just looks right to trout also.
I received 12 of the Shimano Refrain 50HS lures before the tariffs were imposed and before the cost to ship goods from Japan was increased. The price for these 12 is $15.50. Not sure what a second order would cost, but it definitely would be higher.
